Former deputy president and UN women’s executive director Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka has called on South Africans to change their attitudes towards women.
Speaking at #SheDecides conference, Mlambo-Ngcuka said attitude change would ensure young people accessed sexual and reproductive health services.
By synchronising the ideals that govern #SheDecides and #SheConquers – an international women empowerment initiative and its local counterpart – the policy gaps found globally, regionally and nationally could be closed
#SheDecides was founded by Dutch minister of foreign trade and international development, Liliane Ploumen, in 2017 to promote the rights of adolescents
- Stand up, speak out: engaging new positive conversations, celebrating the bold and expressing public support for the rights of adolescent girls and women to decide for themselves.
- Change the rules: making sure that laws and policies make it easy for her to decide.
- Unlock resources: getting the money, skills and technical support, from governments, donors, foundations and individuals to secure access to quality information and services.
The global movement #SheDecides has 36 champions, one-third of them ministers of government, and more than 40 000 friends.
